Resolving Update Issues

Today two of our clients installed updates (core and plugin) themselves which broke their sites. 99% of the time installing an update goes smoothly but developers cannot mitigate for all themes and plugins that might be installed on a website so you should always install updates with care.

If you are happy to apply updates yourself on your site then it is imperative to obtain an offline full backup of the filesystem and database in case the worst happens then you definitely have everything you need to put the site back as it was.
